Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty lauded Wednesday Tunisia’s steadfast support as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for Egypt’s water rights, a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said.
Abdelatty made these remarks in a joint press conference with his Tunisian counterpart, Mohamed Ali Nafti, in Cairo.
The statement added that during the press conference, Abdelatty stated that the two sides agreed to enhance economic and trade relations between Egypt and Tunisia and emphasized increased engagement between the private sectors in both countries, particularly in renewable energy and clean energy production, primarily green hydrogen.
Furthermore, Abdelatty noted that recent developments in both countries’ energy sector aim to position them as exporters to the European market. According to the statement, he also praised the progress in Egyptian-Tunisian relations since Tunisian President Kais Saied’s visit to Egypt in 2021, highlighting the need for Egypt and Tunisia to collaborate in Africa.
In return, Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti praised Egypt’s ongoing coordination with Tunisia on regional matters and underscored collaboration between the two nations.
On another note, the statement said the two ministers discussed the rapid developments in the Middle East, especially in Syria.
It added that they agreed on the importance of achieving security and stability in Syria, emphasizing the importance of respecting Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity. Both ministers also stressed the urgent need for launching an inclusive political process to secure stability in the country.
In conclusion, the statement affirmed that the two sides discussed other pressing regional issues of mutual concern, including the situation in Gaza, the developments in Libya, and the efforts to combat irregular migration.
