In the battle of the ages, in the true sense, Mike Tyson was defeated by the challengers in a bitter slugfest. “Iron” Mike Tyson, was interviewed before the fight on what it’s going to be, “Vicious”, answered the champ. And vicious it was. From the moment Mike Tyson stepped into the ring the beast mode was turned on. In a symphony of violence Jake Paul was knocked around shortly after Mike Tyson stepped in the ring. But the fight was showing the lackluster by both fighters. Jake Paul not really hurting the champ and Tyson was not able to deliver…
A scheme that allows French day trippers to visit Guernsey using their national ID cards instead of a passport is planned to continue next year. The arrangement was introduced earlier this year, and is credited by a ferry operator with boosting visitor numbers this summer. It was due to expire in September, but French and island authorities want the deal extended until the end of 2024. The Committee for Home Affairs said it was eager to maximize travel opportunities for French nationals before the anticipated launch of the UK’s Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system in late 2024. ‘Pilot scheme success’…
Police in the centre of Paris used tear gas and water cannons to break up a pro-Palestinian rally, after the French government banned such demonstrations. Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said those defying it should be arrested as “they are susceptible to disrupt public order.” Despite the ban, thousands of protesters gathered in Paris, Lille, Bordeaux and other cities on Thursday. President Emmanuel Macron appealed to people not to foment internal division. “The shield of unity will protect us from hatred and excesses,” he said in a video address. The ban on pro-Palestinian rallies comes as European governments fear a rise…
he most fabulous catwalks in the French capital during Paris fashion week were not on the runways of Vuitton, Dior, or Valentino, but inside the Élysée Montmartre, a venue better known for packed, sweaty rock shows than for high-glamour events. At Sunday’s ELB ball, hundreds walked the Élysée’s floors at Paris’ largest LGBTQ+ ballroom to date, travelling from across the world to compete for 55 trophies and cash prizes. Inspired by the GMHC Latex Ball in New York, the oldest and largest international Ball founded to celebrate queer lives and honour those lost to Aids-related illnesses, the ELB was established to celebrate Paris’…
After attacks by Ukrainian maritime drones on Russian ships in the Black Sea, it became more difficult for Russia to export grain by sea . This may cause an increase in world prices for wheat. According to Reuters , the cost of transporting Russian wheat has already begun to rise. In recent days, the cost of insuring ships heading to Russian Black Sea ports, through which 70% of grain is exported from the Russian Federation, has increased. Also, the risks in the Black Sea increase the cost of freight for Moscow and push it to cooperate with less reliable shipping operators. Even prior to the…

French investigators searched the headquarters of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games organizing committee as part of two probes into suspected corruption. The headquarters of Paris Olympics organizers in the suburb of Saint-Denis have been searched on Tuesday as part of two investigations by the French financial prosecutor’s office. “A police search is currently under way at the headquarters of the organizing committee. Paris 2024 is cooperating fully with the investigators to support their investigation,” said Olympics 2024 spokesman Jonathan Firpo. According to Le Monde newspaper, raids also took place at the offices of the public body in charge of Olympic infrastructure, and at…
Clashes erupted in Paris on Monday marking May 1, a traditional day of union-led marches, in the wake of hugely unpopular changes to France’s pension system that were signed into law last month. One of France’s largest unions, the CGT, had called for “historic” protests following months of unrest and widespread strikes that saw transport grind to a halt and garbage mount in the streets of Paris. A CNN team on the ground reported chaotic scenes from the protests, having witnessed fireworks and other projectiles thrown at the police who answered with tear gas as they retreated and regrouped. Ahead…
Central Asia is becoming more authoritarian before our very eyes: after the power grab completed during the pandemic, the region’s elites are now introducing a series of measures designed to entrench their power for decades to come. Russia’s support may prove decisive in further strengthening this power. In Kazakhstan, the regime led by Kassym-Jomart Tokayev used last month’s parliamentary elections — in which no opposition parties and very few independent candidates were allowed to stand — to replenish its deputies in the legislature. While many new members of parliament were elected, they’re unlikely to bring significant changes to Kazakhstani politics.…
A routine TV interview has sent waves of anger and suspicion through Europe, undermining China’s efforts to position itself as a neutral peace broker and diplomatic rival to the U.S. Beijing appeared to be scrambling Monday to contain the fallout from comments by its top diplomat in Paris, who sparked uproar by questioning the legitimacy of former Soviet states. The remarks were the latest twist in China’s complex and at times uneasy relationship with the Continent, as it seeks closer economic ties and to be seen as a possible mediator between Russia and Ukraine. Lu Shaye, China’s ambassador to France, said the countries in eastern Europe that…
