According to a United Nations report, the number of dead during the conflict is three times higher than that of the victims in the previous eight years of hostilities between the two countries

Since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, more than 9,000 civilians have lost their lives, including 500 children. This is confirmed by a UN report, according to which, however, “the real number could be much higher”. These are conservative estimates but, as the United Nations declares, the number of victims in 500 days of war is nevertheless three times higher than all those of the previous eight years of hostilities in eastern Ukraine, which since 2014 preceded the invasion. “Today we sadly passed a new sad milestone in a war that continues to cause terrible civilian casualties in Ukraine,” said Noel Calhoun, vice chair of the United Nations Monitoring Group on Human Rights in Ukraine.
